Faculty Research Support & Development

University Grants Program (UGP)

Internal support opportunities are available through the University Grants Program (UGP). The University Grants Program (UGP) was created to integrate three independent funding mechanisms through which faculty presently derive internal support for creative and scholarly research. This unique program combines funding opportunities available through the Faculty Development Program (FDP), Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA) and the Faculty Grant-In-Aid (GIA) programs.

Albert W. Johnson University Research Lectureship

The Albert W. Johnson University Research Lecture series is sponsored by Graduate and Research Affairs and the University Research Council and is supported, in part, through Instructionally Related Activities funds. The Albert W. Johnson University Research Lectureship is awarded annually to an SDSU faculty member for outstanding achievement in research and scholarship. Its purpose is to recognize such achievement, to foster its continuation, and to enable a distinguished resident faculty scholar to share his/her knowledge more broadly with and beyond the academic community. The recipient of this Lectureship delivers a public lecture during the spring semester and is named a Distinguished Professor in his/her discipline. The recipient also receives a $1,000 honorarium.

Intellectual Property Development & Support

SDSU fosters the development of ideas and the broad dissemination of these ideas for the purpose of serving the public interest, while, simultaneously, striving to protect the legitimate private interests of members of the University community. Responsibilities associated with the development of intellectual property (e.g. inventions, devices, textbooks, software) are described within the University Policy and associated guidance. In addition, faculty receive advice and assistance in the commercialization of their inventions, copyrights, and other scholarly work through the Technology Transfer Office.

The Division of Research Affairs (DRA) and the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) work together to serve SDSU for the management of new intellectual property developed by SDSU faculty and staff. Both play an active role in this management with several different responsibilities that work together to ensure compliance with all relevant laws as well to open doors for positively impacting the communities in which our researchers work.

Student Research Support & Development

Graduate Student Travel Fund

The program will continue for at least three years. Ten Inamori Fellowships will be awarded annually in open competition.
