San Diego Magazine hosted the first Women Who Move the City event on July 12 at the Museum of Art in Balboa Park. The evening enabled women to gather and network while enjoying a cocktail reception hosted by San Diego Magazine. San Diego Magazine publisher, Maureen Sullivan’s, announcement of Gail Naughton as the Woman of the Year was the highlight of the evening.

When asked about the selection, Sullivan emphatically stated, “As the Dean of the College of Business Administration, Gail has guided San Diego State University to great accomplishments with incredible support from the biotechnology business community. I could not believe that she holds an impressive 90 U.S. and foreign patents, combined. Her endless dedication to the local community makes her a role model to us all.”

In 2000, Naughton was the first individual woman to receive the National Inventor of the Year Award by the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Her commitment to her field and education continues with her work as part of the university advisory boards at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Washington and she is a frequent lecturer at universities around the world. She devotes her time to several other nonprofit foundations among them the California Health Institute, the Ackerman Foundation and Rotary International.
