S. Donley Ritchey Joins SDSU College of Business Administration Board

The College of Business Administration at San Diego State University announced today that S. Donley Ritchey is joining the college’s board of directors.

Ritchey, the retired chief executive officer of Lucky Stores Inc., earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SDSU, where he was also active in student government. He was named SDSU College of Business Administration Alumnus of the Year in 1981 and SDSU Alumnus of the Year in 1986.

"Don’s long-standing experience in the business community will be of great benefit to our college," said Gail Naughton, dean of SDSU’s College of Business Administration. "Additionally, as an alumnus, his past experiences as a student will help guide us as we grow San Diego’s future business leaders."

Ritchey currently serves as director on the boards of The McClatchy Company, De La Salle Institute, is board chair of John Muir Health and retired in April from the AT&T board of directors. He is also managing partner of Alpine Partners, a family investment general partnership and previously completed two terms as an elected councilmember and mayor in the town of Danville, Calif.

"I'm excited to become a part of the College of Business Administration board and look forward to working with Dean Naughton," said Ritchey. "I share the desire of present board members in seeking to elevate the stature of my alma mater and provide students with the skills and education they’ll need to compete in an increasingly global business market."

Ritchey began his 32-year career with Lucky Stores Inc. in San Diego, Calif. as a part-time clerk while attending college at San Diego State University. Progressing through a variety of operations and merchandising roles, he became executive vice president and was elected to the board of directors in 1975; president in 1978; chairman of the board in 1981; CEO from 1980-1985; and continued as chairman until June 1986, when he retired from active participation in the company.
