Harold Warman Conducts Final Performance
Warman will conduct the SDSU Wind Symphony at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, in Smith Recital Hall.
The concert includes James Barnes' "Third Symphony – Op. 89," and "Under the Double Eagle March" by J.F. Wagner.
Warman has conducted ensembles at SDSU for 32 years, including the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Marching Aztecs and the Pep and Varsity Bands. Born in Southern California, Warman received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Redlands. He served for five years as vice president of the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association and president of the College Band Directors National Association Western Division in 1985 and 1986.
His groups have performed at international music festivals throughout Europe. In addition, Warman has conducted performances in Germany, Austria, Canada, Mexico and Japan. He also has been frequently requested as clinician/consultant and has directed numerous honor bands.
Barnes' "Third Symphony" was commissioned by the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington D.C. According to the composer, "The work progresses from the deepest darkness of despair after the death of our baby daughter Natalie all the way to the brightness of fulfillment and joy after the birth of our son Billy three days after the symphony was completed in 1994."
