President's Conference Room Renamed
The Susan K. Weber Conference Room was dedicated to recognize Mrs. Weber's work on behalf of the university.
'Bellying' up
"The Webers 'belly up to the bar' when it comes to fundraising," said Bob Payne, a local business leader, SDSU alumnus and chair of the board of directors for The Campanile Foundation.
Formerly the President's Conference Room, San Diego State University leadership approved a name change in gratitude for President and Mrs. Weber's philanthropic support of SDSU. At the last minute, President Weber chose to name the room for Susan only in recognition of her efforts on behalf of San Diego State.
It was a surprise to many when he announced the official name of the room. As a curtain was pulled, guests applauded while appreciating Mrs. Weber's wide-eyed astonishment at seeing only her name above the conference room doors.
Mrs. Weber's contributions
Payne highlighted Mrs. Weber's contributions to San Diego State and emphasized her leadership with SDSU BRIDGES. With BRIDGES, Mrs. Weber has assembled a dynamic group of civic volunteers, philanthropists, alumni and friends of SDSU who "bridge" San Diego State with the San Diego community.
In closing remarks, Vice President Carleton noted Mrs. Weber's role in representing the university locally and nationally. Carleton also cited the Webers' tenure as the "first couple of SDSU" and mentioned Mrs. Weber's creative work at University House, where many university events are held and which serves as the home to SDSU presidents and their families.
