Graduate and Research Affairs Offers Inamori Fellowship

Applications are due Oct. 15, with Inamori Fellows announced in November.

Graduate and Research Affairs is pleased to announce the Inamori Fellowship Program. Kazuo Inamori, founder of Kyocera Corporation, has contributed funds to SDSU that Graduate and Research Affairs will use to provide stipends to degree-seeking graduate students. 

The program will continue for at least three years. Ten Inamori Fellowships will be awarded annually in open competition.

In order to apply, degree-seeking graduate students must have at least two semester remaining in the program. Each Inamori Fellow will receive $5,000 for a 12-month period. The award will augment any other support the student is receiving. 

There are no duties associated with receiving a fellowship, but Fellows will submit a brief summary of their activities at the end of the award period. Fellows may apply for successive annual awards through open competition. Recipients will be named “Inamori Fellows” at SDSU.

Members of the Student Research Committee will review Inamori Fellowship applications. The committee includes representation from the Graduate Student Association, the Graduate Council and the Division of Research Affairs.

The application will include statements of:

  • Work completed and planned
  • Academic background
  • Scholarly accomplishments (e.g., awards, publications, presentations)
  • Training environment
  • Faculty mentor recommendation


Interested students must complete the Inamori Fellowship application (opens PDF)and e-mail the document to the Student Research Committee at [email protected]. Applications must be received by Oct. 15 for consideration  Awards will be announced in November.
