SDSU's Media Team Honored by PRSA
The award of excellence was bestowed upon SDSU for its H1N1 crisis communications program last spring.
In times of crisis it’s imperative to have effective communications that informs and educates one's many audiences to minimize rumors with facts, establish the organization as a credible source for the most current information and build confidence in the handling of the situation.
Award-winning response
San Diego State’s response to the H1N1 flu virus on campus last spring was recognized for doing just that by the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) San Diego Chapter at its annual Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence Awards dinner Thursday, Sept. 17. PRSA presented a total of 60 awards, recognizing the industry's finest public relations tactics, campaigns and professionals, in categories including media relations, community relations, crisis communications and special events.
SDSU’s media team was awarded the Silver Mark of Excellence for Crisis Communication, the highest honor in that category, for its program, which included everything from press conferences to websites to campus e-mails to social media.
Second year in a row
The work done by the media team last spring laid the groundwork for the university’s preparedness for this year’s flu season. This is the second year in a row SDSU’s media team has been recognized for its work in crisis communications.
