Cecilia “Ceci” Necoechea ends her career at SDSU after 33 years of outstanding service to faculty, staff and students in the College of Education. Her last day on campus was Sept. 30.

Student favorite

Necoechea has been the program administrative analyst for the SDSU/CGU Joint Ph.D. Program in Education since its establishment in 1988.  She worked closely with Peggy Hawley, the first director of the program, in welcoming the first group of twelve students.

During the past 30 years, her service to students has been legendary. All one has to do is attend one of the SDSU/CGU graduation receptions and listen to the accolades that graduates bestow on her.

It is not uncommon to hear a student say, “I never would have finished if it weren’t for the support from my family and Ceci.” Necoechea developed numerous handouts and roadmaps to help doctoral students understand and successfully navigate two distinct university systems.

Faculty and staff friend

Necoechea has been equally skilled in working with faculty and staff. She reached out to new staff members and provided them with contacts and resources. She often spearheaded fundraising efforts among faculty and staff members to send flowers, funds or a gift to others who were ill or suffered a loss.

Necoechea has been willing to provide assistance, even when it is not part of her job responsibilities. She has given 110 percent effort to help students and faculty while always being honest, sincere and representing the College of Education with integrity and a welcoming smile!

Celebration

The College of Education will host a reception to honor and celebrate Necoechea's dedication and outstanding contributions to the students and faculty of the college from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, at the Faculty-Staff Club.

To RSVP, please contact Maribel by Friday Oct. 16 at (619) 594-8302 or [email protected].
