In an effort to close a $15 million deficit, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will significantly reduce service on Sundays, effective Feb. 28.

Service changes to the San Diego State University Transit Center will include the discontinuation of some routes and less frequent service on all others. MTS advises students, staff and faculty to plan trips ahead of time. New timetables are available online at www.sdmts.com and on board MTS buses.

Sunday service reduction

The service reductions will be primarily on Sunday—to preserve the network of weekday service. Sunday has about half the number of riders as weekday service, and a higher percentage of rides on Sunday are non-work-related. MTS also realizes a higher cost savings by reducing routes with low ridership.

The reductions are necessary because of the elimination of State Transit Assistance funding, lower sales tax revenues and less than projected fare revenues.
