JJ Spaun is the only Aztec named to the MWC all-conference team this year.
The Mountain West named San Diego State sophomore golfer J.J. Spaun, of San Dimas, Calif., to the all-conference team for his performances during the 2009–10 season.
It is the first career honor for Spaun and he is the 10th Aztec and fifth SDSU sophomore to garner all-MWC honors overall in the league's 11-year history. Spaun is the only Aztec to receive MWC men's golf honors this year.
About Spaun
In May, Spaun led San Diego State in season stroke average with a 72.00 mark to rank eighth in the league. He finished in the top 15 on five occasions in 2010, including a victory at the Thunderbird Invitational in Arizona and a third-place performance at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford. Spaun garnered his first career MWC player-of-the-month honor following those two April tournaments.
Spaun recorded a career-low 205 at the Thunderbird Invite, tying for fifth-best in school history for a 54-hole event. He also fired a career-low of 66 in Arizona and has a team-best 14 sub-par rounds on the year. Spaun's latest honor follows his naming as MWC Golfer of the Month in April.
Spaun was one of five Aztec golfers and 75 players overall at the NCAA Men's Golf San Diego Regional at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif., May 20–22.
