Aztec water polo players Amber Pezzolla and Kelly Campoli both earned all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors.

Amber Pezzolla
Amber Pezzolla was voted to the all-conference second team and all-MPSF freshman squad.

Pezzolla was voted to the all-conference second team and all-MPSF freshman squad, while Campoli garnered all-league honorable mention accolades. This is the first MPSF recognition for the pair in their careers.

About Pezzolla

Pezzolla, a San Dimas, Calif., native, started all 36 games for the Aztecs and led the team in scoring (54), assists (48), steals (78) and ejections drawn (59) this season. Her 40-goal-40-assist-40-steal campaign is the first since 2007 and only the fourth time since 2000.

Pezzolla is also the first Aztec to lead the team in scoring, assists and steals in more than 11 years. In her first season on campus, she leads all MPSF freshmen in scoring, ranked third in goals scored and 11th in goals per game. She also scored in a team-best 28 games, 15 of which were of the multiple-goal variety.

About Campoli

Campoli followed last year’s All-America effort with an even better one in 2010. The goalkeeper made a career- and team-high 337 saves, marking her second consecutive season with more than 300 stops, and added 22 steals and 20 assists, while compiling a goals-against average of 6.96.

Campoli, from Lake Forest, Calif., made 35 starts and held a majority of opponents (28 of 36) to nine goals or fewer.

On a conference level, Campoli ranked first in total saves and second in saves per game. The sophomore is the first SDSU goalkeeper to earn all-MPSF recognition since Ashley Zabel in 2004.

Aztec accolades

The two San Diego State honorees mark the fourth consecutive season in which multiple Aztecs have earned all-conference accolades. Pezzolla’s all-freshman team appointment, meanwhile, is the second in school history and first since 2008 when Sarah Brady earned the award.

SDSU recently finished its season with a record of 21-15, its school-record fifth consecutive 20-win campaign.
