Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Rae Armantrout, popular writer Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and San Diego-based agent Sandra Dijkstra are just some of the literary heavyweights taking part in the third biennial International Conference of the Contemporary Women's Writing Network, held in San Diego July 7–9, 2010.

SDSU’s Departments of English and Comparative Literature, European Studies and Women’s Studies are co-sponsoring and organizing the conference, a testament to SDSU’s leadership in literary scholarship.

“SDSU continues to achieve new levels of international prominence in literary studies through sponsoring and hosting this important event,” said Edith Frampton, lecturer in SDSU’s Department of English and Comparative Literature and a conference organizer.

“It contributes significantly to SDSU's standing as number one small research university.”

This year’s conference will focus on new texts, approaches and technologies. Session topics include:

  • New approaches to gender and aging
  • The role of blogs and zines in women’s writing
  • Contemporary feminist poetics

The conference will draw close to 200 influential scholars, writers and industry professionals from across the globe. It aims to support contemporary women’s writing and scholars by providing a forum to discuss a variety of topics related to the field.
