SDSU No. 2 Grad School for Physician Execs
The master's degree program in public health was recognized by Modern Healthcare.
It's official—the SDSU master's degree program in public health (MPH) is one of the best in the country.
According to Modern Healthcare magazine, the program ranked second among 44 universities nationwide, tied with the University of North Carolina. The rankings are based on the 2009-10 school year.
Only nationally accredited program in San Diego
The program is the only nationally accredited program in the San Diego region and one of five nationally accredited health care management programs in California.
Created more than 30 years ago, the MPH program, with a concentration in health management and policy, prepares students to meet the challenges of the health-care market. It focuses on organizational, managerial and financial roles of health service managers.
Preparing health-care leaders
“Many of our graduates have gone on to leadership roles with some of the major health-care organizations in the region,” said Stephen Williams, associate dean of the College of Health and Human Services.
“We utilize the expertise both here on campus and in the community to provide a well-rounded program that prepares graduates with a unique business perspective on the health-care industry.”
About the rankings
Modern Healthcare ranked programs on five factors, including:
- Length of time to complete (the shorter the program the higher the rank)
- Cost of total tuition (the lower the tuition, the higher the rank)
- Number of days students must spend on campus (the fewer the days, the higher the rank)
- Age of each program in years (the older the program, the higher the rank)
- Number of total graduates
The SDSU MPH program is among the least expensive programs for in-state students and can be completed on a part-time basis.
SDSU Graduate School of Public Health
The master's degree program in public health is part of SDSU’s nationally recognized Graduate School of Public Health.
The school was founded in 1980 as part of the university's focus on health and human services. One of four nationally accredited schools of public health in California, GSPH provides both undergraduate and graduate education in population-based health disciplines to prepare students for professional health and public health careers, and to enhance the knowledge and abilities of current health professionals.
