President Weber Statement on the Passing of Don Coryell
Coryell, the legendary former Aztec football coach, died Thursday at the age of 85. Funeral arrangements are pending.
“Today is a sad day for all of San Diego. We lost not just a sports icon, but a gentleman who was a dear friend to many of us. Don Coryell’s legacy to most is as a great football mind. He put San Diego State football on the map. But his passion and support for the university long after his coaching days were over are what we appreciate most. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with the Coryell family.”
SDSU published an article titled “The Coryell Legacy” in the 2002 Summer issue of SDSU Magazine. The story has been republished here.
