Football Coach Brady Hoke Signs Contract Extension
The contract for the 2010 MWC Coach of the Year will run through 2015.
San Diego State football head coach Brady Hoke agreed to a contract extension through the 2015 season, SDSU Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced Monday.
While specific terms of the deal will be finalized later this month, Sterk said they will include an increase in Hoke's base salary as well as bonuses, and it will also consider assistant coaches and some facility upgrades. Last week it was reported that an SDSU supporter has pledged $5 million to the athletic department to help retain Hoke.
Quick turnaround
In just his second season on the Mesa, Hoke has led the Aztecs to an 8-4 overall record and a 5-3 mark in league play to tie for third place. It matches the program's best finish in MWC history.
San Diego State has doubled its wins from the 4-8 campaign in 2009, posted its most victories since the 1996 team (which also had eight) and earned its first trip to a bowl game in 12 years. The Aztecs also boast a 5-1 record at home, including the program's first win over a ranked team since 1996, and received votes in the Associated Press and coaches' top 25 polls for the first time in six years.
Aztec honors
Hoke became just the third head coach in SDSU football history and the first overall since 1998, to garner league coach-of-the-year honors. He also helped a record six Aztec student-athletes earn first-team all-MWC accolades in 2010, highlighted by conference freshman of the year Ronnie Hillman.
Hoke has led his teams to bowl games in three of the past four seasons (2007 and 2008 with Ball State), including a trip for SDSU to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl against Navy on Dec. 23, at Qualcomm Stadium.
