San Diego State senior Raymundo Reza, of Denver, Colo., was selected with the 20th pick in the 2011 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft by the Portland Timbers on Tuesday.

Double-deuce selection

The Timbers, one of two expansion teams set to begin play in the 2011 season, took Reza with the second pick of the second round.

About Reza

Last season, Reza led the Aztecs in scoring for the third consecutive season with 18 points on six goals and six assists to garner second-team NSCAA All-Far West Region honors.

A third-team Top Drawer Soccer and first-team all-Pac-10 pick, Reza also led the squad in:

  • Goals
  • Shots (70)
  • Shots on goal (25)
  • Penalty kick goals (3)

Reza started the final 55 games of his collegiate career, including all 19 in 2010.

Other Aztecs in the MLS

Reza’s selection came a year after three SDSU players were selected for the MLS SuperDraft, including:

  • Steve Beitashour (San Jose Earthquakes)
  • Nick Cardenas (Kansas City Wizards)
  • Jamel Wallace (Seattle Sounders FC)

San Diego State finished the 2010 season with a 10-7-2 record, the program’s first 10-win campaign since 1994 (10-9-0).
