Earlier this week, the Mountain West Conference announced that SDSU student Josh Hoffman was the grand prize winner of the 2011 Ultimate Fan Reporter Challenge. As the grand prize winner, Hoffman will receive airfare, hotel accommodations and credentials to the 2011 Conoco MWC Basketball Championships for himself and a guest. Hoffman will go behind-the-scenes to interview Mountain West coaches and players after the semifinal and championship games of the conference tournament, taking place this week. Hoffman's adventure can also be followed via the SDSU blog.

  1. Why did you choose SDSU?
    I chose SDSU because of its location, educational opportunities and prestige within the California public school system.

  2. What inspired you to declare your major?
    After serving as the sports editor on my high school’s newspaper for two years, my passion for sports journalism was confirmed. Additionally, I have a natural curiosity about the world, and I have always enjoyed writing and storytelling.

  3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
    "Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss

  4. What are your future goals?
    I want to be a sports broadcaster for a national radio and/or television network.

  5. What’s the first website you look at every day?
    ESPN.com

  6. What experience at SDSU has changed your life the most?
    My tenure as the sports director at KCR Radio — SDSU’s student-run radio station — has changed my life the most because it has given me great opportunities within the sports journalism industry, which in turn have helped me further my pursuit of my ultimate career goals.

    Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections on and Off the Court by John Wooden
