Extended Studies Offers Summer Teen Camps

Local industry experts will guide students in exploring some of today's hottest careers June 20-Aug. 12.

San Diego-area teenagers are invited to rock their summer at one of San Diego State University’s Summer Teen CAMPX Career Exploration Academies.

Offered from June 20–August 12, each camp session is held 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday-Friday, at SDSU’s College of Extended Studies/Gateway Centers.

There is a 10 percent discount offered to SDSU and SDSU Research Foundation faculty and staff, as well as an additional 10 percent discount for registering for multiple camps or bringing a friend/relative.

Exploring careers

These exciting day camps provide high school students entering grades 9-12 with opportunities to:

  • Make new friends
  • Practice real-world career skills
  • eXplore new options for your future

At each weeklong career exploration camp, local industry experts will guide students in exploring some of today’s hottest careers. Teenagers will go behind-the-scenes, gain hands-on experience and get insider advice on the knowledge and skills they’ll need for success.

Career exploration camps will allow students to:

  • Tour the San Diego Sheriff’s Crime Lab and learn from an experienced crime scene technician at Whodunnit? Crime Scene Technology
  • Learn what it takes to be part of the creative process from TV news production studio industry experts at Channel 6 News and KPBS with Tune in: TV News Production 
  • From building rocket ships to microchips, find out about the exciting jobs in the field of engineering at Build it: Engineering Exploration
  • Go behind the scenes at Sony Online Entertainment, and learn the creative process of video game production from the experts at Level up: Video Game Design & Production
  • Tour the San Diego Superior Courthouse and participate in a mock trial to take on the role of an investigator, attorney, or judge with Justice served: Lawyers, Judges and More
  • Learn about helping people or animals, or working in a lab with In Demand: Options in Health Careers 
  • Learn what working in the entertainment business is really like for performers, and everyone behind the scenes of music tours, stage productions and event venues with Rock on: The Business of Entertainment

More about Teen CAMPX

Each five-day camp session is $299 (excluding any discounts), which includes instruction, tour transportation and a Friday lunch and fun activity.

Students who participate in Teen CAMPX will explore possible career options in a fun, hands-on environment, and will be able say to friends, “I’m going to SDSU this summer!”

This is a SDSU Research Foundation Program.
