Joanne Faryon will host “KPBS Evening Edition,” a 30-minute news analysis program launching on KPBS TV this fall, KPBS announced last week.

Faryon, who has worked at KPBS since 2006, will anchor the program, guiding thoughtful analysis and discussion of the day’s news. Video packages, interviews and multimedia features will highlight the program.

“I am thrilled to be working on this program,” Faryon said. “‘KPBS Evening Edition’ will provide the San Diego community with a local news program dedicated to truthful, balanced and fair reporting of not only the day’s events, but also an analysis of the issues behind those events.”

The program begins Sept. 26 and will air weeknights at 6:30.

“I think people want more in-depth, intelligent information from local broadcast media, and they deserve more.”

About Faryon

Faryon is a journalist at KPBS, reporting for television, radio, and www.kpbs.org in addition to hosting the series “Envision San Diego.”

Last year she spearheaded the series’ investigation into the whooping cough epidemic, which prompted health officials to look more closely at the vaccine’s effectiveness.

Faryon was also instrumental in the series’ stories about California’s prison system, which earned an honorable mention from the National Press Foundation earlier this year.

“I think people want more in-depth, intelligent information from local broadcast media, and they deserve more,” she said. “I am not afraid to ask tough questions. Hopefully people at home feel as though I ask the questions they want to ask.”

Faryon was recently awarded a Walter Cronkite Award for political journalism for a documentary about the San Diego County Supervisors titled “Who’s Supervising San Diego?” Faryon also earned a regional Emmy as well as several awards from the San Diego Press Club and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Prior to joining KPBS, Faryon worked as a newspaper, radio and television reporter in Canada and the U.S., specializing in investigative reporting.
