Brian Finch wil serve as a member of the social sciences review panel for four years.
SDSU sociology and public health professor Brian K. Finch was recently invited to serve as a member of the National Institute of Health’s Social Sciences and Population Studies Study Section, Center for Scientific Review.
Finch will serve as a member for four years, from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2015.
High scientific standards
"It's an honor and a privilege to be invited to be a member of this NIH study section," said Finch, who has been reviewing grant proposals for various NIH institutes for nearly a decade.
"This particular study section is comprised of some of the most accomplished scholars in my field who uphold extraordinarily high scientific standards."
Unique opportunity
Members on the review panel have demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of their research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant scientific activities.
“Membership on a study section represents a major commitment of professional time and energy, as well as a unique opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort,” said Dr. Antonio Scarpa, director of the Center for Scientific Review.
Role of review panels
NIH review panels recommend applications to the appropriate national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science. These functions are considered of great value to medical and allied research in the nation.
Invited members have been carefully reviewed and deemed as capable of rendering mature judgment and objectivity as well as working effectively in a group.
