CIBER Program, Director Honored at 9/11 Tribute

As the nation prepares to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the World Trade Center San Diego (WTCSD) will pay tribute to 9/11 with an event on the Broadway Pier in downtown San Diego.

Local tribute

Peace, Prosperity and Diversity Through Trade: A 9/11 Commemoration will include a flag salute, a military fly-over and a moment of silence.

During the event, WTCSD will also bestow its Essence of World Trade Award on San Diego State’s Center for International Business & Education Research (CIBER) and its managing director, Mark Ballam.

“This is such an important event and tribute, it’s an honor to be a part of it,” said Ballam, a member of WTCSD’s board of directors. “At CIBER, our mission is to help ensure the United States' long-term international competitiveness by supporting research, education and outreach activities. The work we do was never more important than after 9/11. So to be recognized at such a momentous commemoration is very humbling.”

About the award

According to WTCSD, each year, the Essence of World Trade Award is presented to an individual, who by high standards of integrity in their business practices, promotes global understanding and international commerce.

The event is free and open to the public from 2-7 p.m.,  Thursday, Sept. 8.It features a 9/11 commemoration walk that includes an American heroes tribute, World Trade Centers gallery, first responder vehicles and international business displays.

SDSU CIBER is a national center of excellence funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. One of 33 centers nationwide, the SDSU center was one of the first five established in 1989 and assists in linking work force and information needs of U.S. business with the international education, language training and research capacities of universities across the country. SDSU CIBER is located in the SDSU's College of Business Administration.
