SDSU to Exchange Faculty, Students with Turkish University
SDSU and Bahesehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, will begin an exchange program in spring 2012.
Traveling abroad and studying within different cultures is an important part of the student experience at San Diego State University. With the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding, there is another opportunity to achieve that global experience.
SDSU and Bahçesehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, will begin a student and faculty exchange program in the spring 2012 semester. The first cohort will include students from SDSU’s College of Business Administration.
Eventually, programs throughout the university will exchange with Bahçesehir University, the fifth Turkish university with which SDSU has an exchange agreement.
Heart of Istanbul
“Bahçesehir Univeristy, located in the heart of Istanbul and overlooking the beautiful blue Bosphorus where Europe and Asia intersect, will give our students exposure to a moderate, democratic society where the majority population is Muslim,” said Al Sweedler, assistant vice president of SDSU’s Office of International Programs.
“In order to compete in today’s global marketplace, our student must be globally literate. ”
“Turkey is an emerging power in the region and is destined to play an important role in regional and international affairs. Studying and working with scholars and students in this ancient and fascinating city offers our students and faculty a unique opportunity to expand their global understanding and perspective.”
Student exchange programs are open to all full-time SDSU students for resident credit for a semester or full-year exchange.
This new exchange program demonstrates the global impact of the university, a key initiative of The Campaign for SDSU. Whether it’s the university’s Fulbright scholars, its study abroad opportunities or the international research of its faculty members, SDSU competes on an international level.
