SDSU's Young Filmmakers Ready to Roll
Future Oscar winners featured in spring issue of 360: The Magazine of San Diego State University.
Just in time for the Academy Awards presentation this weekend, the spring issue of 360: The Magazine of San Diego State University features SDSU’s award-winning film students.
The cover story spotlights current students and recent alumni whose films have been recognized regionally and nationally.
Sundance winner
Class of 2011 graduate Destin Daniel Cretton, for example, won top prize for short film at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival plus a Nicholl Fellowship for screenwriting awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
And while he is the clear rock star among recent graduates, wait until you read what his SDSU peers have accomplished.
Life-saving research
On a more serious note, 360 Magazine also features stories of faculty research that could save lives.
“The Doctor Will Cure You Now” describes Stanley Maloy’s mission to develop antibiotics that will destroy deadly bacteria while leaving the beneficial strains intact.
“Muscle Man” follows Sanford Bernstein’s 30-year quest to unlock new treatments for human muscle and cardiac diseases.
History of Cowles Mountain
The spring issue also traces the history of SDSU’s connection with Cowles Mountain from 1930 to the university’s Centennial year, when students recreated the legendary “S” with a living thread of lights.
