San Diego State junior guard Courtney Clements has been named an honorable mention All-American. She is the first Aztec honored since the Associated Press began the awards for women’s basketball in 1995.

She joins recent standout Jené Morris, who was a honorable mention State Farm Coaches’ All-American in both 2009 and 2010, and Falisha Wright, who was a two-time honorable mention pick by the coaches in both 1993 and 1994.  Chana Perry was the Aztecs’ first All-American, earning first-team accolades in 1989.

About Clements

Clements was named the 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year, becoming the first Aztec to earn the award in the conference’s 13-year history. She led the league in scoring with 17.4 points per game and ranked first in Mountain West-only outings with a 17.9 average. She scored 20 or more points 13 times, had at least 17 in 21 contests and was not held to less than 10 points in consecutive outings in 2011-12.

She also was tops in the Mountain West in free-throw shooting, knocking down 40 of 42, while her season percentage of 86.9 at the stripe is third in SDSU history.

The 6-foot guard, who also is a candidate for All-American honors from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, was named to the league championship all-tournament team and was a three-time conference player of the week. Clements is the first player from the Mountain West to be recognized by the Associated Press since 2010.
