Marching Aztecs Ready for Season Preview
The free concert will take place at 11 a.m., Aug. 24, in front of Hardy Tower.
With football season approaching, the players aren’t the only ones preparing.
The Marching Aztecs are also getting ready for their preview concert, which will showcase the music that will be featured during games this season.
The “Marching Aztecs Season Preview Concert” begins at 11 a.m., Aug. 24, in front of Hardy Tower and it will include performances with the Marching Aztec Winds, Drumline, Auxiliary Corps and the SDSU Dance Team.
How it began
"These concerts started as an impromptu performance on the last day of Band Camp in 2009,” said Bryan K. Ransom, Director of Athletic bands.
After noticing the impromptu performance attracted a crowd, the preview concert was born.
“We were rehearsing in Smith Recital Hall, and the air conditioning was out. I decided on a whim to bring the band and color guard out to what was a very quiet center of campus," Ransom said.
"We set up some concert arcs and starting playing through some tunes. Soon we had quite a crowd watching and listening. I decided then that this should be a recurring event."
