Mortar Board Makes History
The senior honor society at SDSU was named the best chapter in the nation.
San Diego State's chapter of Mortar Board, a senior honor society, made history late last month at the organization's national conference.
It became the first two-time winner of the Ruth Weimer Mount Conference Excellence Award.
“It’s the single most prominent award any chapter could receive,” said Allison Pierce, Mortar Board student president. “To think that we are the first to win it twice is absolutely incredible.”
SDSU’s Mortar Board chapter also took home several other awards including:
- Golden Torch Award — Recognition for chapters excelling in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service.
- Project Excellence Awards — Recognition for 20 of SDSU’s Mortar Board events and projects including: Mortar board planner, faculty and staff appreciation ceremony, and Stocking stuffers for troops collection drive.
- Distinguished Advisor Jane Smith — Recognition for outstanding advisors for their contributions and ongoing dedication to Mortar Board.
“None of this would be possible without Jane,” Pierce said of her advisor. “She is there for everything, and I know I can always trust her to direct me and our organization in the right way.”
Pierce said she appreciates the national recognition.
"We are continuing to do our best to make sure our campus is represented nationally and working hard to keep the legacy alive,” she said.
