Mayoral Debate on Campus
Candidates Bob Filner and Carl DeMaio will square off in a debate hosted by KPBS and the SDSU School of Public Affairs on Oct. 1.
In partnership with KPBS, SDSU’s School of Public Affairs is hosting a mayoral debate set for 8 p.m., Oct. 1, in the KPBS studio.
Mayoral candidates Bob Filner and Carl DeMaio will focus on topics specific to the San Diego region — crime, safety, infrastructure and city government.
Maureen Cavanaugh of Midday Edition will moderate the debate, which will be broadcast live on KPBS television and radio.

Questions for the candidates can be submitted via the school's Facebook page. Viewers are encouraged to live tweet about the debate using #SDDebate.
The debate is part of an annual public forum hosted by the School of Public Affairs. Past topics included domestic violence, the three strikes law, social security reform, immigration control and assisted suicide.
The school’s commitment to providing an academic perspective to regional issues stems from its long-standing reputation of educating many of the region’s civic leaders.

The debate is part of KPBS’ election coverage which includes reports, features, and investigations presented on KPBS TV, radio and online. A comprehensive guide on local, state and national races and measures is available on the campaign website.
On Nov. 6, KPBS will have election returns on radio, TV and online. Coverage begins at 5 p.m. with live reports from KPBS News at Golden Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m.
