March 13 was unlike any other day in San Diego, especially for Aztec employee, Doug Case.

“By the Council of the City of San Diego, that this Council, for and on behalf of the people of San Diego, does hereby declare March 13, 2013 to be “Doug Case Day,” announced city Councilmember Marti Emerald.

Case has been an active board member on the College Area Community Council for 27 years and has served as president for the past seven years. As of March 13, Case ended his term as president.

I think Doug leaves big shoes to fill, given how much he has given to the College Area over the years, but I know he has plans to continue to be actively engaged giving back to the community he loves,” said Emerald.

College Area Community Council

The College Area Community Council is a volunteer community group designed to adhere to the needs and relations between the San Diego community and San Diego State University. Community members can attend CACC meetings, provide feedback to the executive board and serve on the board and other committees.

“There will always be bumps in the road, and ordinances, plans and agreements are not self-enforcing, which is why the diligence of the CACC remains a necessity,” said Case.

Case at SDSU

Case also has a long history at San Diego State. Prior to his position as Testing Coordinator, he was the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life for 30 years and has provided abounding support for SDSU’s Greek system. In 2011, he was accredited the “Doug N. Case Greek Student Advocate of the Year Award” to be awarded annually to a faculty or staff member who provides extensive contributions to the SDSU Greek community.

For the past 20 years, Case has served as the advisor for the multi-campus fraternity, Delta Lambda Phi, a fraternity for gay, bisexual and progressive men. He is an advocate for equality, fairness and civil rights through his work in the LGBT and Greek community.

The Award

Case was presented the proclamation of his day from Emerald during his last meeting as CACC president.
