Times Square Famous
SDSU alumna Carly Hill was featured on a billboard in Times Square for Registered Dietitian Day.
San Diego State University alumna Carly Hill was selected to represent registered dietitians nationwide on a banner in Times Square Wednesday.
In celebration of Registered Dietitian Day, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, asked members to share their most meaningful experiences in providing health and nutrition services as a registered dietitian.
Hill was selected amongst a pool of 150 applicants for her following response:
"Helping save the life of a young pediatric patient who had leukemia with medical nutrition therapy and using food as medicine. This was incredibly meaningful to me because I could relate to my patient. As an adolescent, I had conquered the same type of cancer, becoming a now 12-year survivor.
My relatability and nutritional expertise not only gave my patient a sense of hope and support, but my nutritional tools and coaching also helped the patient overcome long-term nutritional complications after intensive treatments. It gave me a rush of adrenaline and put a huge smile on my face to know I helped save a life."
About Hill
Hill earned her bachelor's degree in food and nutritional sciences from SDSU in 2006 and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Delaware. She is currently a dietitian at Naval Medical Center San Diego, working primarily with children.
