7 Things About Nick Holeman

Nick Holeman, a senior studying international business, is a true Aztec.

He is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, and the San Diego State University Financial Planning Association. Holeman also works at the Aztec Recreation Center, a service of Associated Students.

Holeman studied abroad in Madrid and holds a California Life & Health License certificate.

1. Why did you choose SDSU?

I fell in love with the campus and the city the instant I visited. What’s not to love about San Diego? SDSU also has one of the top international business programs around. It was a no brainer for me.

2. What inspired you to declare your major?

I chose international business because it combined my personal and professional goals. The business world had been calling my name and I knew I wanted to get into the world of finance. But I also wanted to learn Spanish and travel the world. With international business, I was able to do all of these.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

A quote that I try to live every day by is: “The harder I work, the luckier I get” by Samuel Goldwyn. Luck doesn’t make itself. It comes associating with people with aspirations just as high as yours, putting yourself in positions to succeed, and most of all, from hard work.

4. What are your future goals?

Once I graduate, I plan on earning my master's degree in financial & tax planning here at SDSU. This is the next step toward my dream career of being a personal financial planner, where I see myself helping my family and friends achieve their financial dreams. I would also like to continue my worldly travels and fill my bookshelf. All of these will help me achieve my real goal — becoming the next Most Interesting Man in the World.

5. What is the first website you look at every day?

My homepage is a daily news show called “The Daily Ticker” on Yahoo Finance. It has up-to-date discussions on what is relevant in the world of finance in the US and abroad. I like to start my day with some money.

6. What experience at SDSU has changed your life the most?

Without a doubt, the biggest life-changing event I’ve had was having the opportunity to study abroad in Spain for a semester. I flew there with no house and no friends, and somehow survived in a foreign culture. I met lifelong friends from all over, traveled to 7 countries, and learned so much about myself and the world. All of the best stories come from my experiences abroad.

7. What is the most interesting or surprising thing about you?

In 2012, I broke the Guinness World Record for the most chicken nuggets eaten in 3 minutes. It was something I just did for fun one summer. I had an audience of my supportive family and friends, and even made it into the school paper. I have the certificate framed on my wall, and it is definitely a conversation starter.

1. What was the last movie you saw? Thumbs up or down?

"The Great Gatsby." Thumbs up, but it can’t compete with the book.

2. What city would you like to visit or visit again?

Paris is my favorite city that I have been to. I guess I’m a romantic and “The City of Love” is too much for me to resist. But having been all over Europe, I really want the culture shock of going to Tokyo or something.

3. What kind of music do you listen to/what are your favorite bands?

I listen to all kinds of music. From Luke Bryan, to Swedish House Mafia, to Mac Miller. One second I’ll be shuffling, then two-stepping. You just never know.
