7 Things About Brandon Williams

Brandon Williams graduated from San Diego State University in May with a communications degree and is now pursuing a master of arts in education with a concentration in counseling.

He is an external affairs veteran of the Student African American Brotherhood, vice president of the Illustrious Lambda Iota chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and was involved in a multitude of campus organizations as an undergraduate.

1.  Why did you choose SDSU?

I chose SDSU because of the affordable education and I was not ready to leave this beautiful city. I was born and raised in San Diego and this institution fit my needs as a local student.

2. What inspired you to declare your major?

I chose communications as my major because I wanted a major that did not limit my career opportunities after college. Knowing how to communicate and how others communicate is a valued skill.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

The best advice I have received was to “surround yourself with people who are only going to lift you higher.”

4. What are your future goals?

My future goal is to be a counselor at either a high school or university.

6.  What experience at SDSU has changed your life the most?

Being a student at this prestigious university, I have become a well-rounded individual who has taken on multiple leadership roles including: Peer Leadership Consultant; Educational Opportunity Mentor; Diversity Peer Educator; Resident Advisor; SDSU Ambassador; Executive Officer for Afrikan Student Union; and I serve as Vice President for Student African American Brotherhood. Through my leadership roles I am able to make positive changes at SDSU by promoting proactive leadership and diversity.

7. What is the most interesting or surprising thing about you?

I am the first in my family to receive a bachelor of arts degree and the first to attend graduate school, and soon to be the first to graduate with a master's degree.
