SDSU Invites Alumni Back for Homecoming 2013

Alumni, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the week-long celebration Oct. 20-26.

The Aztecs homecoming game vs. Fresno State on Oct. 26, is set for 7:30 p.m. and will air nationally on ESPN2.

San Diego State University’s Homecoming 2013 celebration is dedicated to inviting alumni back to campus and sharing SDSU's Aztec pride.

Alumni, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the weeklong celebration with a special emphasis on re-engaging past students in their alma mater.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m, Sunday, Oct. 20, with a Homecoming Kick-off Fun Run at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center Sunset Lawn. Wear your red and black and join the Aztec community for brunch, poster decorating and more to ignite the excitement for Homecoming Week.

Activities will take place all week, but Friday is being considered the day for SDSU alumni to spend the day on campus, starting with the annual War Memorial Ceremony to honor Aztecs who gave their life for their country.

The day will also include a pep rally, send-off for the football team, alumni networking mixer and the Marshall Faulk Aztec for Life Celebration.

After the Homecoming kick-off party, the SDSU Women’s Soccer team will face Nevada on the Sports Deck next to the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center.

Special events

The second day of Homecoming Week will feature the Rise of the Aztecs Talent Show.  Enjoy free refreshments and watch fellow Aztecs share their talents.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at on the Aztec Green.

Ultimate Aztec

Do you have what it takes to be the Ultimate Aztec? Put your inner Aztec to the test as you compete in an inflatable obstacle course and field day challenges following the student team competition. 

The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the ENS 700 field.

Aztecs Rock Hunger

The Aztecs Rock Hunger campuswide food drive will kick-off Oct. 3 with the goal of raising 150,000 pounds of food for the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, support by dropping off  non-perishable food items in the red bins located across campus, or make a donation to the cause at various dining locations on campus. Check out "can-structions" made by fellow Aztecs at the Campanile Flagpole.

Aztecs bleed red and black — save a life and donate to the Aztec Homecoming Blood Drive. A mobile blood drive will be located on South Campanile Walkway from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Spirit Scavenger Hunt

Keep on the lookout for Homecoming student teams as they compete in a one-of-a-kind spirit scavenger hunt across campus!

Welcome home!


Alumni, this is your day — on Friday, Oct. 25, alumni are invited to explore SDSU with a day filled of events around campus.

The Aztec community will remember fallen Aztecs at the 17th Annual War Memorial wreath-laying ceremony on the Aztec Green. Pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during our nation’s military conflicts. A coffee social will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the War Memorial Ceremony begins at 10 a.m. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can learn all about the soon-to-open Aztec Student Union from representatives of Associated Students.

After the ceremony, head over to the soon-to-open Aztec Student Union to learn all about the new building.

At 5:15 p.m., make your way to the Viejas Arena Lawn for the Homecoming Pep Rally. Cheer on the Aztec Football team as they depart from school in preparation for Saturday's Homecoming game against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Show your Aztec pride and receive free giveaways.

Immediately following the send-off, at 6:15 p.m., the First Annual Homecoming Mixer will take place at the Aztec Recreation Center. It is an event for SDSU alumni, current students and the community to come together in celebration of Homecoming and have a chance to network! Refreshments will be provided by Woodstocks Pizza.

For Friday's events, free parking is available in Parking Structure 5, on the upper level from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Marshall Faulk Foundation's Aztec for Life Homecoming Celebration

Alumni and guests are invited to celebrate Homecoming Weekend with professional football legend Marshall Faulk and other Aztec legends at the 6th annual Aztec for Life Homecoming Celebration at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and features food, complimentary bar and live entertainment.

Proceeds from the event benefit San Diego State University Athletics and underprivileged youth programs supported by the Marshall Faulk Foundation.  

Game day

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Aztecs will face Fresno State at Qualcomm Stadium. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Before the game, there will be a Homecoming Pregame Carnival that begins at 3:30 p.m. in the stadium parking lot, section E2,  that is free and open to the public.

Aztec super-fan Tom Ables will be signing copies of his book "Go Aztecs!" at the Aztec Village tailgate prior to kickoff.  Now attending his 69th season of SDSU football games, Homecoming 2013 will be game number 738 for Ables.
