Tita Gray is a lecturer at San Diego State University in the College of Business Administration.

She currently serves as a member of the San Diego LGBT Corporate Best Practices and the Leadership Institute co-chair for the American Association of Blacks in Energy. 

Gray holds a bachelor's degree from Baruch College in New York, an M.B.A. from San Francisco State University and a certificate as a life and career coach from the Life Purpose Institute.  She also writes articles and blogs on diversity and professional development and has been a guest lecturer at San Francisco State University, San Jose State University and Santa Clara University on diversity and inclusion and organizational development.  

1. What inspired you to do this kind of work?

The inspiration was based on giving back. I knew that I wanted to be a professor for most of my adult life and finally the stars aligned to make it happen.

2. How long have you worked at SDSU?

I’ve worked here since the fall of 2012.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

“See it, believe it, and become it.”

4. What is your favorite thing about your job?

My students! I love being around them, interacting with them, and also learning from them. They are my inspiration.

5. What about your field or position do you think would surprise people the most?

Possibly that it’s a lot of fun. Often times people think that teaching is so serious but most times it’s the highlight of my day.

6. What is the most interesting or surprising thing about you?

It would be that I’m an introvert and a big nerd.

7. If you could only rescue one thing from your burning office, what would it be?

If it were my home office it would be my dog. He’s always with me. If it were my office at State it would be my knapsack which holds all of my secrets.

1. What is your favorite kind of music/what are your favorite bands?

I don’t actually have a favorite type of music but I love Salsa. Some favorite bands are the Roots, Coldplay and Steely Dan.

2. What is your favorite sports team or who is your favorite individual athlete?

The New York Giants, although they’re killing me this season.
