Honoring Outstanding Service
A Mortar Board event recognized retired faculty and staff for their service to SDSU.
On Oct. 26, the Jane K. Smith Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board hosted the 28th Annual Emeritus, Administrators, Faculty and Staff Outstanding Service Awards Ceremony and brunch at San Diego State University.
President Elliot Hirshman presided over the ceremony, unveiling bronze plaques for honorees Joe Vasquez, associate vice president emeritus for Business and Financial Affairs and Ernst Griffin, special assistant to associate vice president for Academic Affairs, and professor emeritus of geography.
Outstanding Aztecs
The purpose of the awards is to honor retired administrators, faculty, and staff who have dedicated themselves to the university, its students and the community. Administrators, faculty and staff who receive the award are recognized through the placement of a bronze plaque at the base of a campus tree.
Participating in the program were Tasnim El Mezain, Mortar Board event chair, Megan Isaacson, Mortar Board president and Patrick Gallagher, Mortar Board executive vice president.
Kenneth Perry, associate vice president emeritus of Financial Management, spoke on behalf of Vasquez and Douglas Stow, professor of geography, spoke for Griffin.
