KPBS Named Media Company of the Year
KPBS was honored by the San Diego Ad Club on Oct. 17.
The San Diego Ad Club held its inaugural Brand Diego Awards ceremony on Oct. 17 to highlight outstanding San Diego brands and the marketing professionals who help build those brands.
The club accepted nominations for awards from the ad industry and the San Diego community. Seven finalists were selected for the Media Company of The Year award. The club presented the award to KPBS at the sold-out ceremony.
“KPBS is honored to receive this award,” said Tom Karlo, general manager of KPBS. “This demonstrates KPBS’ long and respected history within the community. Also, our commitment to serving our audience with trusted news and terrific programming is paying off — with growing audiences and this recognition from a group of esteemed peers in the industry.”
About the Ad Club
The Ad Club is one of San Diego’s leading networking and professional trade groups for advertising and marketing professionals.
To demonstrate their ongoing commitment and support for the advertising and marketing industry in San Diego, the club opened nominations for 14 different awards including Brand of the Year, Agency of the Year and Media Company of the Year.
Serving the community
"KPBS’ nomination emphasized their dedication to adapt and remain relevant in a rapidly changing media landscape and their commitment to the community in which they serve," Karlo said.
Nominations were judged by a panel of local business and community leaders from a variety of industries. KPBS was up against NBC, U-T San Diego, KSON, Univision Radio, Cox Media and 88.3 KSDS-FM for Media Company of the Year.
Finalists were chosen based on how the media company demonstrated leadership within their industry and community, created a positive impact in the community, innovated to help their industry develop, and their civic and community involvement.
While the Ad Club’s long time annual ADDY awards highlight creative works, the goal of the new Brand Diego awards is to focus on people and local brands.
