Jeff Jacobs, former Qualcomm executive and now Vice Chairman of the NBA Sacramento Kings and owner of the Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa, has made a $1.1 million gift to San Diego State University Athletics in support of the Aztec Basketball Performance Center and student-athlete scholarships.

Part of The Campaign for SDSU, Jacob’s gift brings the campaign total to more than $436 million of its $500 million goal.

"As one of the ten founding Director's Cabinet members, Jeff has been an active supporter of Aztec Basketball since the day I arrived at San Diego State, nearly 15 years ago,” said Aztec Men’s Basketball Head Coach Steve Fisher.

Helping student athletes

“I am very thankful and grateful to Jeff for providing the leadership gift and his ability to rally other donors to make the Basketball Center a reality.  He understands the importance of Aztec Basketball in the San Diego community and wishes for us to continue our pursuit of championships and the very best student-athlete.  The Basketball Performance Center will allow for that."

On November 13, 2013, President Elliot Hirshman and Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced the plans for a 23,500-square-foot Basketball Performance Center with a plan to break ground on the project in late spring 2014.

The $14.5 million facility will be located just west of the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center.  Two full-length courts, eight baskets, locker rooms, film rooms, team lounges, athletic training room and coaches locker rooms will enhance the Aztec Men’s and Women’s championship basketball programs.

Hometown pride

“The Jacobs Family has lived in San Diego for the last 47 years, and we have no plans to leave this remarkable city,” said Jacobs.  “There is no better entertainment in San Diego than a sold out and rocking Viejas Arena, especially as a dominant West Coast power and a growing prominent player on the national men's basketball landscape.  It gives me great satisfaction knowing I can contribute to the success of Aztec Basketball and the continued ascendance of the Aztecs to the top of men's college basketball."
