Aztec Recreation Has More Than Ever

On Jan. 22 the Aztec Recreation Center Express and Aztec Lanes open, offering new destinations inside San Diego State University’s new Aztec Student Union.

The 6,000 square-foot ARC Express is located on the south side third floor offers participants views of the surrounding area, and will feature a wide variety of the industry’s finest fitness equipment and spaces to accommodate current needs for Aztec Recreation members, including:

  • A cardio zone and TVs with Cardio Theatre, a system that allows you to listen to the TVs using your personal headset
  • Woodway Treadmills®, Precor Ellipticals®, Precor bikes®, Precor AMT Trainers®, and Concept 2 Rowers®
  • An open floor plan with plenty of space for stretching, core training and body weight movement
  • Life Fitness Synrgy 360 XL top-of-the-line functional training equipment providing opportunities to train smarter, better, and more effectively
  • Life Fitness and Hoist Strength Training Circuits
  • Free weight dumbells 2.5 lbs up to 50 lbs
  • Barbells 20 lbs – 60 lbs
  • Total Gym Core Trainers® and stretching mats

Beginning Jan. 22, ARC Express hours of operation will be:

  • Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m.

Free classes

During the first week of operation, Aztec Recreation fitness instructors will be presenting numerous free small group training sessions at ARC Express. 

These training opportunities include instruction on the Synrgy 360 and TRX functional training systems. Details are available on the ARC Express webpage. Regular drop-in access for ARC Express is available for Aztec Recreation members, but for a first-week-of-school-promotion the small group classes are open to all members of the SDSU community. Advance registration is required.

Aztec Lanes

Aztec Lanes is SDSU's new bowling and games center located on the first floor of the Aztec Student Union.

At Aztec Lanes, participants will enjoy a gaming lounge, five professional-grade billiard tables, two professional-grade table tennis tables and eight big-screen TVs.

Aztec Recreation members bowl for free and shoe rental is only $1 for members. The 12 bowling lanes, as well as the scoring and comfortable seating areas, are outfitted with top-of-the-line equipment by Brunswick. Guests of the Lanes will also be able to book private parties, take Exercise and Nutritional Sciences one-credit bowling classes, and participate in intramural bowling leagues.

Starting January 22, 2014 Aztec Lanes Hours of Operation will be:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Thursday, Friday: 9 a.m. to midnight
  • Saturday: Noon to midnight
  • Sunday: Noon to 10 p.m.
