Greek Week 2014
Greek life students will participate in the annual Greek Week to support a local charity.
Every year, hundreds of SDSU students come together for Greek Week.
This week-long celebration is a long standing tradition at universities across the United States. Activities differ from school to school, but the main concept of Greek unity and philanthropy are always at the core.
At SDSU, all Greek organizations in the Panhellenic Council — Interfraternity Council and the United Sorority and Fraternity Council — participate, raising awareness of and funds for Photocharity, a San Diego based non-profit.
Photocharity helps homeless youth ages 12 to 24 learn basic skills and apply them towards getting a job and a home of their own.
“Photocharity got its name with photography,” said Jeffrey Sitcov, founder of Photocharity. "Through connections I made, I was able to photograph well-known artists such as The Rolling Stones and The Eagles and gain signed memorabilia that was later auctioned off to benefit the charity.”
Greek Week will start on March 21 with the opening ceremonies and Greek games and concludes on March 27 with a talent show and closing ceremonies.
“This event allows students to give back to their community and connect with one another. It is a great way for students to bond with one another despite being in different organizations,” said Jordan Lewton, student life advisor for fraternity and sorority life.
Throughout the week students will also compete in poster and chalk drawing events, hold fundraisers and also attend beach clean ups and host a clothing drive.
“I am thankful that the SDSU Greek Community has selected Photocharity as their benefactor. We are really excited to work with this group of students and raise awareness of our charity,” said Sitcov.
