Student Organization Spotlight: Rotaract
The goal of SDSU's Rotaract chapter is to ensure all members achieve personal and professional goals while attending SDSU.
“Service above self” is the motto of Rotaract, a community service organization at San Diego State University. The organization's president, Kodi Bobier, is proud that his organization puts the needs of others before their own.
What made you want to join Rotaract?
I wanted to join an organization where leaders came together for the betterment of our community. There is so much need in our local community and I wanted to join an organization that was working to help out in any way possible.
What motivated you to get involved once you were a member?
When I first joined I immediately was presented the opportunity to run for the executive board. After serving on that for a couple weeks, I knew I was in the right place and I wanted to continue giving back which led to me my current position as President.
What has been the highlight of your time with Rotaract?
The highlight thus far was definitely my experience assisting in Tecate, Mexico. A few members and I joined forces with fellow Rotarians and helped rebuild a school in Tecate that was in desperate need of help.
What kind of activities does Rotaract plan and attend?
Our organization does several activities throughout the year. We host fundraisers to raise money for our beneficiaries; the biggest being the Kobey’s Swap meet which raised over $1,000 last year. We also participate in Camp Enterprise which is a camp for high school juniors in order to show them how to create a business plan.
Is Rotaract open to all majors or is it major specific?
We are gladly open to all majors. There is a membership fee of $25 per semester.
When it comes to finding new members for Rotaract, what type of students are you looking for?
Rotaract is a very prestigious group on campus, therefore membership is limited. We do require that students have a minimum 2.5 GPA, in the process of at completing at least 30 units and involved in at least 2 other student organizations. This is in addition to our desire for passionate, selfless and motivated leaders on the SDSU campus.
Rotaract holds meetings every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Stay connected by following their Facebook page.
