For the second year in a row, San Diego State University — which has raised more than $494 million toward the $500 million goal of The Campaign for SDSU — has been recognized for its exceptional development program by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

“Being recognized by CASE for the success of our development program two years in a row is truly an accomplishment and speaks of the commitment of the entire university to The Campaign for SDSU,” said Mary Ruth Carleton, vice president for University Relations and Development at SDSU. “I could not be more proud of our staff for all they have accomplished since the campaign launched in 2007.”

SDSU is one of three schools to be honored with the 2014 Educational Fundraising Award for overall performance for public research and doctoral institutions with endowments under $250 million.  Stony Brook University and Colorado School of Mines were also recognized in this category.

Carnegie Melon, Harvard, Duke, Stanford, University of Southern California and University of California, San Diego are just some of the universities recognized in other categories. A complete list of the 2014 CASE Educational Fundraising Award winners can be found online.

Exceptional development program

Since 1959, CASE and its predecessor organizations have recognized exceptional development programs for their overall performance and improvement in fundraising. SDSU’s program was chosen for showing solid program growth, breadth in the base of support and other indications of a mature, well-maintained program.

“San Diego State University was selected by a volunteer panel of judges for overall fundraising performance based on three years of data,” said Brian Flahaven, director of legislative, foundation and recognition programs for CASE. “Out of 450 eligible higher education institutions, SDSU was one of 46 institutions nationwide selected to receive this well-deserved recognition.”

Led by the 34-member board of The Campanile Foundation, SDSU’s University Relations and Development division works together with alumni, parents, donors and the community to generate the external recognition, support and financial resources the university needs to carry out its mission and achieve its aspirational goals. The department includes professionals with experience in fundraising, marketing and communications, alumni engagement and gift administration.

The Campaign for SDSU

The Campaign for SDSU is the university’s first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign. It was launched to create new opportunities for student success and to help SDSU continue to develop as a leading public research university.

To date, the campaign has received more than 123,700 gifts from alumni, friends, faculty, staff, parents and community partners, including 90 gifts of $1 million or more.

More than $374 million has been raised through the campaign for SDSU’s eight colleges to establish faculty endowments and support academic programming. Another $92 million in gifts support students through scholarships, internships and research opportunities.
