A total of 58 San Diego State University student-athletes representing 10 different sports have been named to the spring 2014 Academic All-Mountain West team.

It’s the third time in the last four years SDSU has had at least 50 student-athletes honored for the spring.

The Aztec women’s swimming and diving team had the largest amount of SDSU honorees with 15 selections, highlighted by freshman Caroline Mitchell’s 3.86 grade point average in foods and nutrition. Women’s golf senior Maureen Dunnagan had the highest GPA of SDSU’s student-athletes this spring with a 3.90 mark in sociology.

The SDSU softball team had the second-highest total of players selected with nine, followed by track and field (8), baseball (6), women’s tennis (5), men’s tennis (5), women’s golf (4), men’s golf (4), women’s basketball (1) and men’s basketball (1).

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the institution, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must have been a starter or significant contributor on their team. This year, a league-record 897 student-athletes were honored.
