SDSU Among Best for Vets
SDSU is ranked No. 38 in the nation in Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2015.
Just in time for Veterans Day, Military Times has released their annual Best for Vets College rankings and San Diego State University is once again in the top 50.
“We are honored and proud to be recognized for our commitment and support of our veterans,” said Joan Putnam, director of the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center at SDSU. “Being ranked among the top 50 best colleges for vets will help spread the word nationally that SDSU offers a high quality education while providing excellent support services to student veterans.”
The rankings, which list SDSU as No. 38, are a comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student success rates and are based on an evaluation of factors that make an organization a good fit for service members, military veterans and their families.
Veteran culture
The survey-based ranking requires schools to document the services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.
“We factor in what is, to our knowledge, the most detailed school-by-school data on veteran students’ academic success anywhere, including graduation, retention, persistence and course completion rates,” said Amanda Miller, editor of Best for Vets. “By recognizing only the schools that do the most, we believe we’re helping to raise the bar in veteran student services.”

SDSU’s commitment
Recognized time and again as a top school for veterans, SDSU serves more than 3,200 student veterans, active duty, reservists and dependents each year. The Joan and Art Barron Veteran’s Center is a valuable resource, as is the Veterans House — the first student-veteran residence of its kind on a college campus.
