Mortar Board Honors Faculty and Staff
SDSU's Chapter of Mortar Board honored faculty and staff at a ceremony last month.
The Jane K. Smith Cap and Gown Mortar Board chapter at San Diego State University — the national honor society for college seniors — recently hosted the 25th Annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Templo Mayor.
The event honors persons who have made significant contributions to the education and academic achievement of the SDSU members of Mortar Board.
Mortar Board members select honorees who represent the ideals upon which Mortar Board is based, including superior scholastic achievement, outstanding leadership and dedicated service. Maxwell Louie, president of Mortar Board, and Alexander Nelson, executive vice president, chaired the event.
Special guests in attendance included: Geoffrey Chase, dean of Undergraduate Studies, Darlene Davies, alumni board member, and advisers Seth Mallios, Emilio Ulloa, Megan Issacson and Cassandra Conboy.

A banner year
SDSU's Mortar Board chapter received highest honors at the Mortar Board National Conference earlier this year.
The chapter was one of 24 out of 230 nationwide to receive the Golden Torch Award for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. It also received 22 Project Excellence Awards for their projects on the campus and in the community.
