CBSSports.com recently revealed its Best in College Sports rankings for the 2014-15 campaign where it rated five sports – football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and a “wild card” sport — and San Diego State University was rated second of the Group of 5 schools.

The “wild card” spot for each school went to the most successful sport among the following: softball, men’s lacrosse, men’s ice hockey, men’s soccer, wrestling, volleyball, women’s soccer or women’s gymnastics.

Overall, SDSU finished 42nd nationally and was rated ahead of 25 schools from Power 5 leagues. CBSSports.com ranked all 128 schools that sponsor FBS football.

The Aztecs are coming off a 2014-15 academic year that saw them win eight team conference championships, which brought their total to 27 team titles since the start of 2012-13. In the Mountain West alone, SDSU has won a league-best 25 team crowns since the beginning of the 2012-13 season.

At the national level, SDSU had nine teams score at its respective NCAA Championship in 2014-15 and has had a team finish in the top 25 of an NCAA Championship 18 different times since 2010.
