1. Why did you choose SDSU?

I chose San Diego State University because I was born and raised in San Diego and wasn’t ready to let go. I took the campus tour my junior year of high school and instantly fell in love with the campus. My dad was enrolled in the business graduate program here when I was born and would bring me to campus from time to time, so I think I was meant to be an Aztec!

2. What inspired you to declare your major?

I was inspired to choose biology not only to challenge myself, but also to give me the tools I need to become a successful medical student after I graduate.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is to grow from my mistakes rather than letting them get the best of me. Because I’m a perfectionist this has been pretty hard for me to grasp, but I’m learning to use all the bumps in the road I encounter to my advantage.

4. Which SDSU faculty or staff member has been the most influential throughout your SDSU journey?

Byron Purse, a chemistry professor, has been the most influential faculty member I’ve encountered during my SDSU journey so far. In addition to being a great professor, he also made himself easily accessible to students and tried to get to know them despite his research endeavors. He provided the class with office hours multiple times a week and truly encouraged our success.

5. What experience at SDSU has changed your life the most?

Although SDSU has provided me with several opportunities, becoming a member of Delta Gamma has positively impacted my life the most. Being surrounded by an incredible group of women who share the same values and strive to do good is priceless. Delta Gamma encourages me to excel in my education and continue to serve my community.

6. What has been your proudest achievement while at SDSU?

My proudest achievement so far was getting accepted as an SDSU Ambassador. Working with an amazing group of leaders while giving weekly campus tours and leading New Student Orientation has been an amazing experience. Receiving an A in the first semester of organic chemistry was a close second, though.

7. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Five years from now I’ll hopefully be enrolled in medical school! I’m planning to become a pediatrician.

8. What’s your favorite thing about being an Aztec?

What I value most about being an Aztec is the diversity that is visible all over campus. SDSU is unique in that there are hundreds of organizations on campus for every kind of student. Being an Aztec means being a well-rounded, driven member of the SDSU community. The diverse population and resources on campus has definitely allowed me to grow and step outside of my comfort zone.
