Zura Hall first opened its doors to residents back in 1968. But this August, when Zura welcomed freshmen to their new home on move-in day, the residence hall was completely transformed — for the first time since Zura's opening, the residence hall received a top-to-bottom renovation.

To celebrate the completion of Zura's renovation, the Office of Housing Administration and the Office of Residential Education will host the Zura Hall Grand Reopening Dedication on Friday, Nov. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.

"The dedication is designed to be a celebration of the transformation of Zura Hall from its rich history serving thousands of former residents to a community that will serve SDSU students for the next 50 years," said Eric Hansen, director of the Office of Housing Administration, who will speak during the dedication.

"We understand the transformational power of the residential experience through our data analysis comparing those students who live on campus to those who live off. We believe highlighting this significant step in our continued investment in the success of these students is worthy both of celebration and thanks."

SDSU President Elliot Hirshman, Zura Hall Council President Emaleigh White and Director of Residential Education Kara Bauer will also speak at the event.

Upgrades

The residence hall now houses three student communities, including the Weber Honors College, Adventures in Surfing and Sustainability and the Pride House.

Zura upgrades include improved infrastructure and systems, renovated interior study, lounge and meeting spaces, improved ADA accessibility, increased sustainability practices and a rooftop terrace.

More than 670 freshmen moved into the residence hall on move-in day, August 21.

RSVP

The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending the dedication are asked to RSVP online.
