AS Facilities Go Green
Two Associated Students facilities were recognized for sustainability efforts.
San Diego State University's ongoing commitment to sustainability was recently recognized by the San Diego Green Building Council.
Two Associated Students buildings — the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union and the Aztec Recreation Center — were lauded for energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
The Union received the LEED New Construction Project of the Year Award, with a special recognition for achieving the most energy points. The ARC also secured a Project of the Year award for their LEED Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance Gold Certification.
SDSU has been recognized on numerous occasions for going above and beyond when it comes to sustainability. Last summer, the Union achieved LEED Platinum certification and the ARC attained LEED Gold. The organization set a goal to ensure all AS buildings facilities will be LEED certified by 2020 — an ambitious, but attainable goal.
SDSU was also recognized last year by the Green Restaurant Association for being the first university to require all of its food service to meet certified Green Restaurant standards.
