Name: Katie Ferraro
Title/Department: Lecturer, Nutrition

1. What inspired you to do this kind of work?

Helping students become more informed consumers is my primary motivation for teaching nutrition.

2. How long have you worked at SDSU?

This is my 5th year teaching nutrition at SDSU.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

If you plan to fail, you fail to plan.

4. What is your favorite thing about your job?

There is so much misinformation out there about food and nutrients and diet. I really enjoy watching students gain the skills necessary to critically evaluate various claims about food-related topics and apply them to their own lives.

5. What about your field or position do you think would surprise people the most?

Students are always surprised to learn that anyone can call him or herself a “nutritionist.” By the end of the first day of all of my nutrition classes, I tell my students that they now have more formal nutrition training than most self-purported “nutritionists.”

6. What is the most interesting or surprising thing about you?

I gave birth to quadruplets (three boys and one girl) last month. You can read more about our story on our blog

7. If you could only rescue one thing from your burning office, what would it be?

I teach online classes at SDSU so my laptop would be my only possession worth saving!
