The stacks of suggestions piled up as five pairs of hands typed furiously on old-fashioned typewriters, attempting to capture the essence of love.

This week at the Farmers' Market, the MFA Writers’ Collaborative crafted poetry for the campus community in honor of Valentine's Day. The collaborative — which is made up of students in the creative writing master of fine arts program — presented prompts and ideas for love poems live, on the spot for patrons to take back home to their loved ones.

Due to its popularity last year, the event returned to celebrate love through poetry. Sixty-seven works of art were composed during the event.

"We have an amazing creative writing program here with an incredible caliber of writers, so this event is a great way to make them visible," said Jessica Ordon, social media and marketing coordinator for Arts Alive SDSU. "And typewriters are beautiful, so there’s a romanticism about using them. The sounds, the sights and immediacy of composing a poem — it’s a fantastic visual, seeing it happen live."
