Wood is director of the doctoral program in community college leadership at SDSU and co-director of the Minority Male Community College Collaborative (M2C3), a national research and practice center that partners with community colleges to support their capacity in advancing outcomes for men of color.
His research focuses on factors affecting the success of men of color in the community college, including contributors to student persistence, achievement, attainment, and transfer for these men. Wood has authored more than 100 publications, including 14 books and 60 peer-reviewed journal articles focused on equity in education.
“This is one more acknowledgement of the impact of Dr. Wood’s scholarship on post-secondary education in the United States,” said Joseph Johnson, College of Education dean. “You and your colleague, Frank Harris, continue to bring honor and distinction to our college and to San Diego State University.”
In learning of the award, Wood said, “I feel fortunate to be recognized for work that Dr. Harris and I have done collaboratively. I know there are many other deserving faculty here at SDSU and around the nation who could be similarly honored. I want to thank God, my family, and our team of graduate researchers for their continued support of this critical work.”
